I could show you pictures of Billiam's anniversary socks (ok 1 3/4 socks) in Cider Moon's glacier (Johnny Cash) and EZ's Baby Surprise Sweater in Cider Moon's River (can't remember the colourway, but it's gorgeous). Alas, I cannot, so you will have to wait. Oh, and I have socks on the back burner for myself in CM's June Carter. Yes, I'm cheesey like that.

to go with this sweater. If I can get back up to the fabric store, I might swap out the buttons on this. It's hard to tell from the photo, but they're shell, like the ones on the sweater. But I could get little square shell buttons to match. What do you think?

not the kind of shower we meant to have today

Today we're having snow and freezing rain. This postpones the shower I am co-hosting for my sister (with her sil). I am fairly certain that my sister doesn't read here, so you get to see two of her gifts.

The hat is from Itty Bitty Hats. I really recommend this book if you like knitting baby hats. Lots of cute ones. The body of the hat is bamboo yarn. I'll have to go find the label, but it's something from Italy and unbelievably soft. The flower bits are Tahki Cotton Classic. It will look so much cuter on my niece's head, rather than on bunched up tissue.

The sweater. Ah, the sweater. I was originally going to give her the cabled baby jacket from a few posts back. Upon completion, I think it's going to be too small. She's due in early April and I wanted something that can be worn in the fall. I was a bit under gauge on the pattern, so I went up a size (watching proportion), but the pattern seems to run small, anyway. Lydia's, where I got gauge, is in 18-24 mos and fits her now.

So I cast on for this sweater Friday morning and got it wrapped by the wee hours of today. The yarn for the sweater is some that I ordered on ebay a while ago. Uber soft wool from Uruguay. Delicious. As soon as it arrived, Jake said it looked like raw hamburger and I've been calling it the hamburger yarn ever since. I really like the way it turned out, though. The edging is some wool yarn I picked up from my lys yesterday. I have no idea what it is as there were two skeins and the owner gave me the one without a tag.

The pattern is from The Gift Knitter (chunky patterns for babies and dogs, of all things). It came out nice and big and would fit Lydia nicely right now with a bit of room, I think. With the shower postponed, I am so tempted to slap it on her and call it my own.

Now I have to decide whether to freeze the quiche or go ahead and let the family eat it (then make more next weekend). We have spinach, sun dried tomato and pecorino romano cheese, artichoke with Tuscan seasoning, and asparagus and cheese. Mmm.

Just a few more inches to go, blocking and then seaming up the arms. Oh, and buttons. Those would be helpful. I added a wee twisty cable on either side of the central cables down the front.

I have a hat started from Itty Bitty Hats, too. I'm really irritated, though. I bought a brand new 16" circular yesteday (finally using a birthday gc for my lys) and the wire popped off at the joint on the second round. Grr.

pink sweater #2

This is the second I've made in this pattern (SweaterBabe's Beautiful Cabled Baby Jacket). The first was for Lydia and I used the Cashmerino Aran that the pattern stated. For this one I am using Rowan Calmer and I have to say I am loving it more. I am also using kfb instead of yo's for the raglan shaping. After finishing Lydia's I find that I am not crazy about eyelets in a gauge this large.

That said, this sweater knits up really fast and I expect to be finished in plenty of time for my sister's shower next Saturday. I am fairly certain she doesn't read this, but if you do, Meghan, you never saw this.

hat for Baby O

I knitted this hat Wednesday night for the new baby niece. The pattern is this one, but I used size 8 needles instead and it ended up newborn-ish size. Plain old Sugar & Cream cotton yarn in Strawberry Ombre.

There was enough left over to start the baby bolero in One Skein. I finished the left and right fronts and the bottom of the body. Now to grab one more skein and finish it off. I am thinking of adding ruffle around the edges to go with the hat.

Ugh. I just hate when I do that. I made a hat for my cousin's first baby (due next month) and gave it to her at her shower on Sunday (along with Sugared Pink soap and Whipped Cream for her). And I forgot to take a picture. )-: You'll have to use your best imagination....it was knit with Gedifra Tagliato in a blend of soft blue, soft green and white. Very pretty. Anyway, just a very basic pattern that I made up as I went along on size 9's. Four rows of 1/1 ribbing then stockinette stitch with a 6 stitch wide cable up the center (with three garter stitches on either side). Tapered at the top up into a dandy little knot on top. Man, I wish I had a pic!

Last night I was feeling Untired (wired would probably be more accurate) after watching 24 so I started a scarf with my single ball of Colinette Point 5 in frangipani. Eight stitches wide, garter stitch on 15's. I'll be sure to take a picture of that one. Just need to charge up my camera batteries. Excuses, excuses. I'm not sure what I'll do with it...it looks great so far and I'd love to keep it, but I'm not a scarf person, so maybe I'll gift it.

Still plugging away at the pink blanket...it's probably about 10 or 11 inches high, now. I worked on it mostly when waiting for Jake after school and at Clara's softball practices. Now that I'm not picking up Abie from preschool, Jake is taking the bus, so that chunk of work time is gone.
