Take me out to the ballgame...
Have you ever felt so hugely proud of someone that you felt like you were going to burst? Clara did great at her game! She caught for the first four innings and then was shortstop for the last two. Her first time at bat she was walked, then tagged out at second when the next hit went between first and second and she kind of ran a crooked mile on her way to second to avoid one of the other team's players standing in the baseline.
Her second time up she was walked but they got five runs in before she made it around the bases, so that was the inning. Her third time she hit it (first pitch!), and ended up bringing in a run.
She does great at catching, especially having never played before. By the end of the inning she's all red-faced, but still happy and excited. When she was shortstop a girl was up at bat...maybe you know this girl...when she gets up the coaches yell to the girls to go waaay back. Her first time up she hit a grand slam. So she hit a hard line-drive (I hope I'm using the right words) and Clara scooped it up and turned to second to throw it. No one was there so she held it for a bit then when girl arrived at second she threw it. Yea! Too late to get the runner out and a bit over, but what a catch!
Now, I would be just as thrilled with her if she hadn't done so well but tried her best. But it's just so amazing to me to see athletic ability in my child that I never had. I wanted to, but just never got the hang of it. And there she is, picking it all up like it's nothing at all.
There. That's my Clara moment of the evening.
